MY STORY

My name is Bongani Malahle from Gqeberha (previously known as Port Elizabeth). Bongani Umculi started singing in the early 90's in a local group called Siyaphambili youth Choir. He later co-formed PE Melodious Voices which later won BEST GROUP in 1997 singing songs composed by BU. He joined FUBA School of Music as a piano student. He performed in different musical spaces as a school band pianist, KAMB quartet (with Khumo Kganyago - Zonke's pianist and others) and co-founded KWANI (later becoming KWANI EXPERIENCE - Jhb).

Bongani Umculi co-founded Ubuntu Abahlobo KwiNgoma and still sings with these musical friends of his. He plays bass guitar for a song and poetry band called UBUNTUMAKWANDE (PE based); and has played bass for bands visiting EKHAYA SESSIONS by Lovechild (PE musical brands). Bongani Umculi is a solo artist since 2017. BU writes his own music and the genre borrows from many styles (Mbaqanga, Afrikan contemporary, IsiXhosa Folklore songs, R&B, NeoSoul, etc.)
